What the papers say...

"Orchestra Lives Up To Its Name"
Gloucestershire Echo – by Ronald Key

“The audience were treated to a very fine display from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, under conductor Steven Rosen, who combines authority with an electrifying sensitivity to the music and to his talented players. A sublime rendition of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony ended the evening of great variety. Rarely are the rhythms and melodies of this exciting score so crisply displayed. The last movement, a controlled whirlwind, brought the house down.”

"Violinist & Conductor Shine in Concert"
Fort Worth Star-Telegram – by Wayne Lee Gay

“In an all Tchaikovsky concert, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra produced from its own ranks a violin soloist – concertmaster Robert Davidovici – worthy of comparison with any in the world. And it matched him with a young new associate conductor, Steven Rosen, capable of holding his own on any stage before any orchestra. While the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto may not be in Tchaikovsky’s top drawer, the Fifth Symphony undisputedly is. One of the most frequently performed pieces in the symphonic literature, it is also a work that no amount of repetition can spoil. In the hands of a good conductor, it’s combination of dignity, passion and pathos, cannot fail to move the receptive listener. And it was in the hands of a good conductor – possibly on his way to becoming a great conductor – last night.”

"Measuring Up To Bartok Challenge"
The Dallas Morning News – by John Ardoin

“Much of the success of Saturday’s performance came from the obvious commitment and deep feelings Steven Rosen, the Fort Worth Symphony’s Resident Conductor, has for the music. He knew the score and what he wanted from it, and he set about implementing his ideas in such a way that the music emerged with dimension and a clear shape.”

“The same was true of the Three Dance Episodes from Leonard Bernstein’s musical On the Town, which opened the program. Though these pieces are less intricate, more squarely built and more dependent on kinetic energy than subtlety, they, too, sprang to life with immediacy and strength.”

"Superb Guitar at the Meyerson"
The Dallas Morning News – by John Ardoin

“It was a superb evening of music, and in some ways it was the most remarkable yet given in the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. A great deal of this was also because of the care of the accompaniment fashioned by Steven Rosen, the Resident Conductor of the Fort Worth Symphony. With exemplary control, he held down the orchestra’s poised sound when Mr. Romero was playing, and allowed it to pour forth during a tutti section.”
